Accessing the Internet from the ITC Convergence Network
(These directions are subject to update and can be found at http://proxypac.itconvergence.com/)
IT Convergence employes a web proxy for the following services:
- HTTP (Internet browsing)
- HTTPS (Secure Internet browsing)
- FTP (File Transfer)
- Real Player
- SSH < SCP (Secure Shell and Copy)
- MSN, AIM, YM
To use the automatic proxy configuration script with Internet Explorer
Go to Tools -> Internet Options

Select the Connections TAB and Click the "LAN Settings" button

Here you should select the "Use automatic configuration script" option and insert the script URL as:
http://proxypac.itconvergence.com/proxy.pac
This script will automatically setup your proxy connection.
To manually setup a proxy connection
Applications which access the internet (such as MSN) can also be configured to use the proxy. Change the application settings to use a HTTP proxy at
proxy.itconvergence.com port:80
There is a redundant proxy at
backup-proxy.itconvergence.com port:8080
Any application which supports the use of a proxy can be configured similarly.
Using the FTP Proxy
Note: This section only applies for fat clients on the DHCP Network. (i.e. If you use Citrix, or have a static IP address, this does not apply to you).
Note: The FTP can only be used clients which support a passive FTP firewalls, Internet Explorer for example; does not.
The FTP client should be configured with the following settings:
- Server: proxy.itconvergence.com
- Port: 21
- Authentication: USER with no login.
Here is an example with the popular WS_FTP Client

Using an SSH through the proxy
Note: This section only applies for fat clients on the DHCP Network. (i.e. If you use Citrix, or have a static IP address, this does not apply to you).
Note: These type of connections only work when the remote server is configured to do so.
Your SSH client should be configured with the following settings:
- Proxy Type: HTTP
- Server: proxy.itconvergence.com
- Port: 80
Here is an example with the popular SSH Client PuTTY

Setting up Real Player to use the RTSP Proxy
Real Player is a popular used media format often used for presentations or for other media events however this traffic can be relatively heavy. The use of an RTSP proxy can lighten this load on the network and make watching streaming media more efficent.
To configure Real Player to use a RTSP Proxy go to Tools -> Preferences

Here select the Proxies Tab, and enter the values
proxy.itconvergence.com port:554

Again you can set a HTTP proxy in a similar fasion as Internet Explorer.
